Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

This relatively young domaine was established in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alex Bachelet along with their father Jean François and Uncle Monnot. Situated in the village of Dezize-lès-Maranges, southwest of Santenay, the domaine consists of 10ha of owned vineyards as well as a further 10 on long-term lease, covering the appellations of Santenay, Maranges and Puligny Montrachet. This is a star domaine on the rise. The vineyards are farmed organically with strict de-budding to reduce the yields, whilst the winemaking philosophy is very much one of non-intervention.

This tastes like Puligny with a dose of Meursault richness! Ripe and honeyed on the nose, the palate is open, buttery and creamy and packed with sun-filled fruits. The acidity is firm and steely which instils a great balance to the wine. This is so well constructed, voluptuous with a tiny hint of liquorice on the finish.
Vinified in stainless steel vats in order to preserve the maximum of fruit and vitality and then aged in 350 litre barrels of which 20% is new for 12 months.
