Lilian Barton described this vintage as a ‘winemakers vintage’. She quipped, ‘if you made a bad wine in 2018, 19 and 20 you should look for another job!’ This is the first vintage to be vinified in the new winery and is an excellent send off to Lilian’s Father, the great Anthony Barton, who passed away in February 2022.
Aged in 60% new oak, this Cabernet dominated wine is tight, sturdy and profound. The nose is brooding, yielding deep notes of blackcurrant and mulberry fruits, delectably fresh with attractive notes of cigar and wood smoke. The palate is impressive, masculine and powerful, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominating, cassis and liqourice, suave tannins and an underlay of forest floor. This is a wonderful claret.
