Dopff & Irion

Based in the Hansel and Gretal-like village of Riquewihr in the heart of Alsace, this 27 ha, highly respected producer, created by the marriage of two of Alsace’s wine families, was established in 1945. The historic Château de Riquewihr which dates back to the 16th Century, now Dopff & Irion’s cellar and tasting room, was once owned by the Princes of Wurtemberg. There is a very focused and environmentally friendly vineyard regime in place, all grapes are handpicked and a great deal of investment has gone into the winery in recent years.
Pale straw colour, the bouquet boasts a great typicity with floral aromas, rose, exotic pine, apple, mango and lychee. The palate is round and soft, well balanced, long and aromatic, with lychee and exotic fruits.. A stylish Gewurztraminer.
Roast Pork

Brian Elliott, Daily Record, January 2025: "Since it is Burns Night, I am including a white wine (yes, white) that, surprisingly, matches haggis well: gewurztraminer. Its oriental fruit flavours nicely counterbalance the spiciness of Old Sonsie Face while its customary low acidity does not matter for this job. Just off-dry and with limited initial aromas, this example exhibits rich lychee, ginger and sweet rhubarb flavours within a texture that incorporates freshness and hints of marmalade"
