Originally from Germany, the Riesling grape is considered by some to be the finest white wine variety in the world. Producing delicate, racy, nervy and stylish wines covering a diverse range of flavours from steely and bone dry with beautifully scented fruits of apples, apricots and peaches, to exotic, sweet flavours of the great sweet wines. Furthermore it is able to maintain its freshness over many years with modest alcohol levels. Riesling is one of the hardiest grapes to grow, its high level of frost resistance allowing it to thrive in the cool, continental climates of northern Europe, as well as parts of Australia and New Zealand, where Riesling wine has, in recent years, enjoyed a popular revival.
