In 2023 Etienne made 35 barrels from his scant 1.4ha of 6 plots that lie in front of the 1er cru of Champans, the ‘vieilles vignes’ average over 56 years old – almost a record, and yet the wine shows tremendous concentration and presence on both nose and in the mouth.
This is an En Primeur wine and special conditions apply.

Domaine Joseph Voillot

This domaine has been producing wine now for five generations, but it is since the present owner, Jean Pierre Charlot, son-in-law of Joseph Voillot, took control that it has moved into the league of serious wine producers. The domaine consists of 10ha of vineyards, with holdings in the top vineyards of both Volnay and Pommard, including some prized sites in several 1er Crus. The grapes are partially destemmed and the wines matured in oak barrels (20-35% new) for 12-18 months.

This is a dark, dense, yet silky wine, with a high degree of ripe red and black fruits, crème de Mure, cherry liqueur and some sweet oak. The palate is dense, notably weighty in the mouth and yet has a wonderful freshness on the long finish. Well balanced, lovely energy!
No new oak was used, but all spent 10 months in used and 15% new barrels.
