Viura is the name given to the white Spanish grape Macabeo in the region of Rioja. Macabeo is used in most of Spain’s white wines, especially in the production of sparkling Cava wines. A sweet and refreshing grape, Macabeo wine is full bodied yet light on the palate with a fruity taste and mild acidity. Not being overly aromatic means that Macabeo wines are often also used in the blending of other white Spanish wines.
