Trincadeira is a Portuguese grape used in the production of fine dry red wines and some Ports. In the Alentejo region it is known as Trincadeira, although everywhere else in Portugal it is widely called Tinta Amarela. The grape is notoriously tricky to grow and maintain, as there is only a short window of time – a few days – in which it can be picked. When picked too early, the grapes will lack in flavour and depth, but if they are picked to late, they can be overripe and low in acidity.
