Pinotage was created by Professor Perold in 1925 by crossing Cinsault and Pinot Noir. It is the signature black grape of South Africa, where it is grown almost exclusively. It can produce light, soft, easy drinking red wine made for drinking young or alternatively it is fermented at higher temperatures and aged in new oak to produce rich, full-bodied, concentrated wines packed full of wonderful berry flavours, spice, leather and chocolate and plenty of finesse.
