Mencia is a lesser-known red grape originating in the Iberian Peninsula, specifically north-western Spain and North Portugal. For years, it was thought to be a relative of the Portuguese grape Jaen; although in 2010 DNA tests proved that they were, in fact, the same grape. Mencia often makes fruity and aromatic red wines with a light body and smooth texture. With similar perfumes and tastes to Pinot Noir, Mencia is perfect for red wine lovers wanting to try something different.
