This white grape is a native variety of Alessandria in Piedmont and tends to perform best in the hills between Novi and Tortona. The grape has been so successful in Gavi that it is known there as Cortese di Gavi. Cortese wine is known for its bracingly high acidity and its ability to retain freshness, even when grown in hot environments. Light and crisp often with apple, peach and honeydew flavours and lime, almond and light herbal or grassy aromas.
