Clairette is a white wine grape variety most widely grown in the wine regions of Provence, Rhône and Languedoc in France. It is one of southern France’s oldest grape varieties, typical of the Mediterranean region. The flesh of the grape is especially juicy. The vine is well adapted to dry, infertile limestone soils. Clairette can be vinified on its own or blended with other grape varieties, producing full-bodied whites that can hang on to their acidity quite impressively. It is a common ingredient in many southern French whites.
