Grown in the Portuguese DOC of Bairrada, Baga is one of the many ‘black’ grapes of the Iberian Peninsula. A high-yielding grape, Baga is known for its dark skin, which imparts a firm tannin structure in wines made from the grape. Baga may also be harvested later in the season, as the high level of natural acidity in the grape allows the wines to retain structure and flavour, meaning they do not seem flat or astringent.
