Thailand is fairly new to the world of wine production, with very few vineyards. Due to its tropical climate, winemaking in Thailand started out as experimental with little success expected. However, viticulture has been a part of Thai history since the 17th Century, when Malaga Blanc was presented to the Siamese King by a French visitor. Since the late 20th century, however, Muscat, Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc have been planted, with good results despite the heat and humidity of Thailand.
