A small and remote wine region, lying between Lyon and the Swiss border, planted to a mere 4,500 acres of vines - mostly local varities such as Chasselas, Rousette and Mondeuse - though the encroachment of Burgundian grapes such as Chardonnay, Gamay and Pinot Noir continues unabated. The backdrop of the Alps gives this region an almost picture postcard feel and the Alpine style of wine is freshly light with an almost tongue-tingly feel.
