The AOC of Bordeaux Supérieur applies to the whole of the Bordeaux AOP, and in many ways is merely a slightly superior class of wines, whether red, white or rosé. Whilst the AOC applies to all, it is the reds which are dominant in the classification. Grapes used are classic Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carménère and Petit Verdot, and the style is a little fuller and more fleshy than AOP Bordeaux. In principle the wines just need a half degree more alcohol and be from vineyards that have 20% more vines per hectare and about 10% less yield per hectare.
