This impressive and muscular Pinot comes from 4 plots totalling 1.2ha (Cras, Poisots, Saussilles and Vaumuriens) that lead down from the village along a gentle slope of red soil and clay that neighbours the 1er cru of Clos Blanc. The average age of the vines is 50-60 years.
This is an En Primeur wine and special conditions apply.

Domaine Joseph Voillot

This domaine has been producing wine now for five generations, but it is since the present owner, Jean Pierre Charlot, son-in-law of Joseph Voillot, took control that it has moved into the league of serious wine producers. The domaine consists of 10ha of vineyards, with holdings in the top vineyards of both Volnay and Pommard, including some prized sites in several 1er Crus. The grapes are partially destemmed and the wines matured in oak barrels (20-35% new) for 12-18 months.

This is quite a difference from previous vintages, where Pommard can be a little ‘chewy’. The 2023 is superbly fruit-forward, lush and decadent, a sweetness and fullness of mulled fruit shining through, yet the weight and structure of the tannins eventually grasp the fruit and give it edge and precision. Very, very good!
All hand picked, sorted and destemmed before ferment in tank and barrel, of which 20% is new.
