Looking for vegan wine for yourself or a loved one? Did you even know that not all wine is vegan? You have visited the right page. Our vegan wine collection boasts some of the finest bottlings from around the world.
What is vegan wine?
At House of Townend many of our vegetarian products are also suitable for vegans in that not only do they not use any animal-derived products in the fining process, they also don’t use products derived from dairy such as egg whites. Fining is done to clarify the wine, which is what makes it clear and bright. Vegan wines use ground-sourced materials like clay or charcoal, as well as alternative processes to fine the wine without the need for animal products.
What makes wine vegan?
For a wine to be classified as vegan there must be no animal products used at all in its production. This includes fish, dairy and eggs. Vegan wine is often fined using charcoal or other natural products. Many vegan wines are marked as such, but some omit the marking and as such, finding which bottles are or aren’t vegan can be difficult.
Why vegan and not vegetarian?
Some wines use animal products in their fining process. Vegetarian wine uses egg white and other dairy products in its production, making it unsuitable for vegans. Vegan red wines, vegan rose wine and vegan white wine must all exclude any ingredients that originate from an animal.
At House of Townend we know how difficult it can be to find the best vegan wines on the market. For that reason, we’ve made our selection of vegan wines easy to browse and have collected wines to suit all tastes and budgets.
