Moscatel de Alejandría, or Muscat of Alexandria, is a white grape considered by many wine experts to be the oldest vine in existence to remain genetically unmodified. Although these days it is mainly grown for table grapes or raisin production, there is a rich history of fine wine associated with Muscat of Alexandria. Thriving in hot conditions, it has been grown since ancient times in Africa, Australia and Greece, where it is commonly believed Cleopatra drank Muscat wine.
